Sharda Sinha Death at the age of 72
Sharda Sinha, the popular folk singer who won our hearts with her melodious voice, passed away yesterday evening on 5th November due to cancer. She was 72 years old. Sharda Sinha was admitted to AIIMS Delhi and was undergoing treatment for cancer in the Oncology Department of AIIMS Delhi since 25th October.
Sharda Sinha was suffering from cancer affecting the bone marrow. In 2017, it was discovered that she had cancer called Multiple Myeloma, this cancer affects the bone marrow.
She was on ventilator in the hospital and died due to refractory shock as a result of septicemia. Today, on the first day of Chhath Mahaparva, Sharda Sinha left us.
“All of you prayers and abundant love will always be with Maa, Chhathi Maiya has called Maa to her side” Sharda Sinha’s son has said in his post.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also expressed his condolences remembering Sharda Sinha, he has said that “the echo of her sweet songs related to Chhath will always remain in our hearts.”
Our Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has also expressed condolences and said that “he is deeply saddened by the demise of Sharda Sinha, she was a singer full of talent, she made Bhojpuri language popular in the hearts of the people. With her demise, folk music has lost a talented singer of its world. I express my condolences. Om Shanti!”
Our Home Minister Amit Shah ji has also expressed his grief and said that “Sharda Sinha, who won the hearts of people with her melodious voice for more than 5 decades, has passed away today, this is a very sad moment, Sharda Sinha was also famous as Bihar Kokila, who sang many songs in Maithili and Bhojpuri language and mesmerized people.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself was constantly monitoring her condition, AIIMS Delhi has revealed this through one of its posts. Our Health Minister JP Nadda ji also visited the hospital to know the condition of Sharda Sinha. He talked to the senior health officials of AIIMS Delhi and asked them to ensure that she is given the best care. .
One of the prominent musicians of Bihar was also the name of Padma Bhushan awardee Sharda Sinha, for which the whole of Bihar feels proud. She has sung a lot in Bhojpuri, Maithili and Magahi languages. It is impossible that Sharda Sinha’s songs are not played in homes during Chhath Mahaparva. Even today, whenever Chhath songs are played in homes every year, Sharda Sinha’s songs are the first to be played.

She sang a song in the film Gangs of Wasseypur directed by Anurag Kashyap which became very popular, named ‘Taar Bijli’.
She has also been awarded India’s third highest award Padma Bhushan for her contribution to the music world. She has also been awarded the Padma Shri and Sangeet Natak Academy Award in 1991.
She celebrated her 54th anniversary in early 2024. She lost her husband Braj Kishore Sinha a few weeks ago, who suffered a brain hemorrhage due to a fall. This year has been very sad for Sharda Sinha’s family
